#withEARTH
"It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth."
Sir David Attenborough - WWF Australia
Small piece of a huge puzzle
Our relationship with nature is broken. Biodiversity – the rich diversity of life on Earth – is being lost at an alarming rate. 68% decline* in wildlife populations on average since 1970 affects not only the state of nature but our own health and well-being, too.
This Earth Day, we decided to support WWF in their actions to band the curve of biodiversity loss. Science has never been clearer, we are the last generation that can make a difference. Join us in this journey by performing your digital transaction on Earth day.
Step by step, all together, we can do something concrete to help the planet to thrive.
This time, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank together with all the other Intesa Sanpaolo Subsidiaries, contributed in the biodiversity preservation by supporting WWF with around 102.000 Euro.
Supporting the project Amazon of Europe
Almost 30 years ago, a group of environmentalists had a dream of creating the biggest protected riverine area in Europe. A shared dream finally became a reality in September 2021 when UNESCO proclaimed the riverine landscape of the Mura, Drava, and the Danube Rivers as the world’s first 5-country biosphere reserve. An area spanning almost a million hectares across Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia connects almost a million people and is known as the Amazon of Europe because of its unique habitats and an abundance of rare and endangered species.
Although the river and floodplain areas are vital to local communities, new hydropower projects, extensive river regulation and sediment extraction from the riverbed are threatening the natural values of the Amazon of Europe. In Intesa Sanpaolo we are keen to support WWF’s work to protect the Amazon of Europe, a place where people coexist with nature.
